Compare the Cost of Repairing and Replacing Your Windows

Not all broken windows need to be replaced. If you’ve damaged or broken a window and want to know if it’s best to get a new one or repair it, there’s likely one main factor you’ll be considering: How much it will cost. At Charles Window we offer replacement windows but we also want our clients to count on us for our honesty. Read on to learn the average cost of window repairs so you can decide if it’s worth it or if you should replace your window.

The cost of repairing broken glass

It’s not that hard to break glass – especially in homes with single pane class. You can count on the average glass replacement to cost around $200 – $500. However, if you need more detailed window restoration then you could be spending thousands of dollars. Single pane glass is generally about $100 cheaper to repair than double pane glass. If you have low-e glass, which offers significant energy savings, it will likely cost another $100.

Fixing defogging

One common solution to common issues with windows is what’s known as defogging. Essentially if the seal of a window has failed, then condensation can build up inside. Eventually, this will eat away at the surface of the window. This condensation has the power to stain the window and if left alone, you can count on having to replace it. In most cases, defogging is about $70 – $100 per window. It involves fixing the seal. At Charles Window, we always stress to our clients how important proper installation is to avoid the need for defogging.

Repairing the lock on your windows

Window locks are important for a number of reasons, the most important of which is to keep your home secure. If you have found that your locks either are broken or are damaged, then you can expect to pay between $100 and $200 to have them repaired – depending on the lock company and the type of locks you want installed.
